Dual Phase Extraction & Treatment SystemsWhen fuel is released to the environment, it typically coats soil particles, dissolves in groundwater, and evaporates into soil vapors. Remediation requires all three components to be treated. Coated soil particles are typically removed by excavation early in the process and sent to soil recycling facilities. The remaining liquid and vapor phase contamination cannot be excavated, and must be treated in another way. Our innovative extraction and treatment systems remove both liquid and vapor phase contamination. A liquid ring pump pulls groundwater and soil vapors into the system. The liquid ring pump pulls at very high vacuum rates that allow for (1) increased extraction of soil vapors and (2) development of a cone of depression that pulls contaminated water from a larger area than traditional pump-and-treat systems. Once inside the systems, the fluid moves through a series of five gravity-fed treatment tanks. The treatment tanks contain microbes that degrade the fuel products naturally. Air is pumped into the treatment tanks to facilitate the separation of fuel and water components. The treated air and water are then released onsite. In many cases, the treated water is released to a sanitary sewer system for further treatment. The dual-phase extraction and treatment system requires little maintenance. Its simple design reduces downtime for maintenance and repair. It is designed specially to operate in the iron- and calcium-rich groundwater of our area. Benefits include:
